Talahi Lake property owners:
Please plan to attend our annual meeting of the membership next month at the Community Center.
Back in the summer, I had posted a save the date for November 11 for our meeting. I neglected to send a note that we needed to reschedule. Several members appeared last Tuesday for the meeting. It is entirely my responsibility to have published the change and I did not. I apologized to those in attendance that night and I apologize again now.
Our annual meeting will cover all of our lake progress this year. We will cover finances, restocking, lake condition and, most importantly, our legal changes. The name change of the association we accomplished early in the year makes us subject to Georgia Property Owner’s Association law. This change gives us much more control over our lake.
We have a new draft of covenants from our attorney. We will send you the document after the board has a chance to review and discuss next week. We have mostly consolidated the existing covenants in to one document. We have made a few substantive changes which we can discuss together next month. I want to emphasize that these changes increase your power as members to decide what our community will be going forward. Key decisions such as changes to our covenants are in the hands of the members through your vote. I do not expect a final vote at our meeting, but I hope our discussion will help all of us to understand what our proposed changes will mean so that you can cast a knowledgeable vote. It is my hope we can have a vote to adopt in January.
Some of our owners were unaware that their property is subject to covenants. The existing covenants are available to you under the sub heading Lake Documents on this site. I encourage you to read them.
Please plan to attend on December 17th.
I wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving.
Bill Oakley
President, Talahi Lake Property Owners Association
Thank you, Bill.
I would like you (& the board) to commit, here in the post, in writing, to publishing the proposed changes to covenants BEFORE the meeting on December 17th, to allow all members (property owners) to review before hand to support meaningful discussions at the meeting.
The changes that have already been made were done unilaterally by the board, without majority vote of the lake association members (legal change of the association, decision to use lake funds for insurance and legal fees). I would like reassurance that the next round of proposed changes to the neighborhood covenants that have existed without modification for decades, is not done by vote of the board, but by the majority vote of the association members (all property owners).
I would like to request volunteers to get the word out of these proposed changes and the annual meeting by going DOOR TO DOOR to ensure EVERY property owner is aware of the meeting, and the plan to CHANGE the lake association covenants. Please call or text me if you are willing to help with this campaign to make ALL property owners a part of this process. Megan 912.856.7958
